Re- Format computer

My Son has told me I should re-format my computer but as he lives some wsy from me I would like to do it myself.Does anyone have any advise on how to reformat a computer.Also I know there is a way you can check what amount of memeory each of my current programmes is using can someone advise how to check it.

Why should you format your computer? What sort of problems are you having? A format and reinstall works wonders, it cleans everything up and gives you a nice new zippy installation of Windows, but it can take ages (if you haven't imaged your drive with something like Acronis) to get it back to the way you like it. Have you backed up all your important files?

You may also want to check the manual to see if it has a 'return to factory settings' option.

Many recent Dell models do, for instance.

It's a quicker way of achieving the same as a re-format.
