Re-Boot Message

I recently had to reboot my PC and got the following message.
Checking File System on C
The type of file system is NTFS
One of your discs needs to be checked for consistency.
Windows will now check the disc.
CHKDSK is verifying files.
Stage 1 of 3
Stage 2 of 3
Stage 3 of 3
This is on a blue background and have had this before a couple of times.
Does anyone know what is being done.

CHKDSK = Check Disk which means the computer is checking the file structure for lost or orphaned file fragments. This usually happens when the computer didn`t close down properly or when the computer detects a problem with the hard disk.

Suggest you defragment the drive and but if it continues to happen it might suggest your HDD is on the way out so make sure you have a backup of your data.

Windows suspects that your hard drive is failing probably due to it seeing a corrupt file and replacing from a backup.

Therefore it is carrying out a disk check.

1. if this is happening regularly then make sure you have backed up all your data to an external source.

2. run the manufactures disk checking tools on your hard drive they can be found on the manufacturers web site, you cn find the make and model of your hard drives by looking in Device manager.
