Random Crashes

  t.long 16:05 24 Oct 04

My computer is crashing at random. Somtimes it just stops working - maybe CPU is overheating though it remains below 60 degrees - other times the crash comes along with a high pitch noise from the speackers.

The System is an Abit IS7-E2 main board, with a P4 Northwood at 3gig. Sound card is a Soundblaster Live 5.1. Running XP Professional SP 2.

Any ideas what the cause might be?

- check all hardware for latest drivers

- check for any possible conflicts

- try the system file checker

sfc /scannow

Thankyou. I figured it was a driver issue, so I just formatted and reinstalled Windows. Drastic yes, but it is normaly the quickest way to deal with such things.

I shall sit down tonight and attempt a nice game of Rome Total War, if that goes well then I think the problem is solved.
