ram questions

Hey guys
I've seen mentioned in one or two articles that if you've got 4Gb of ram, WindowsXP will only see/use about 3Gb. And that you might need a 64 bit system or something? I'm wondering why Vendors are bothering to offer more ram (There's 8Gb available over at Evesham).

If I opted for a 64 bit PC will all my hardware, software work okay? And will my computer be slower than a 32 bit PC?

Thanks for any advice

James

Vista will use it all.

Now thats a good question, with very little 64 bit software written and 64 bit drivers hard to come by I personally wouldn't bother (I am currently running 32bit XP on a 64bit chip).

So with very little software written for this 64bit version, most stuff won't work ?(Far Cry, photoshop cs2, MS Publisher etc) I'm not sure it's a risk I can take. Maybe just stick with a normal 32bit system.
