RAM 667mhz with 800mhz?

  fpg 11:04 06 May 09

I have a two slot MB with 2gb DDR2 667mhz in one slot the other vacant.
Will a 2gb 800mhz RAM work if installed in the vacant slot?
Would it be better than onother 667mhz memory item in the slot?
System is Vista with Intel Core 2 Duo chip
Thanks for hopeful replies.

Yes it will probably work, but only at the speed of the slower RAM, i.e. 667MHz.

To say for sure if it will work you need to say the motherboard that you have.

Use the memory scanner at Crucial click here to identify compatible RAM. As OTT-Buzzard says, the RAM will only run at the slower speed of the two sticks of RAM.

Interesting that a Buzzard and a Kestral were both helpful. I followed the leads and have ordered a 667 Ram from Crucial.
Thank you both
