Raid 5

Hi Folks,

I am still contemplating a new PC build, made a good few decisions and am now thinking about storage and back up.

I am being a bit tempted by raid, basically a back up solution I don't have to think about and if I go for raid 5 it speeds the whole thing up as well.

Any experiences anyone? Speed, efficiency, noise, energy consumption??

Thanks,

Epirb.

Any experts not out in the sunshine this morning?

I wrote a three piece article about building a web server, that uses RAID 5.

Take a look and see if it's any help. The fact you want to use it as a file backup server, is not really important in this context. The only difference would be, which software you choose to install on it.

My server runs 24/7 and is quiet enough to remain in my home. In headless mode, it burns about 100w per hour.
