QuickTime volume control in browser

I have installed QuickTime to play EMBEDded audio clips in IE8 because I couldn't get WMP to play them. But although the QuickTime play bar appears and plays the embedded clip, it starts with the volume control at zero and I have to bring it up by hand. Is there any way I can preset this volume? Second question: I think this must mean that IE is set to use QuickTime by default, presumably in the Registry. Does anyone know how to make WMP the default player in the browser?

OK, I've found it. I'm older and stupider than I was when I set up the program. volume=100 (in the EMBED script) is the simple answer.
