Have you tried right click on launch bar and tick Properties then Show Quick Launch?

Sorry didn't read the post, probable cause, your registry got its knickers in a twist:-)

Sorry I have done the same as terryf

Sudden shutdown......no time for all your settings to be written onto the hardsdrive from the RAM memory.

As Terryf says this can cause the registry to lose some of your personal settings......default is for quicklaunch to be switched off which is what Windows will revert to if it loses that particular setting.

rawprawn Ile give the free tool a try,

but I double checked with all my free spyware scanners, a-squared, Ad-Aware, Spybot, Ewido, Windows Defender, avg all came out clean and not forgeting Reg-scrub and CCleaner as well

Taskbar plus repair tool is exactly what it says, it's a tool to reapair, not to trace nasties. It simply puts things in the rgistry back in order.

Thanks for that, I was also wondering could I try a registary scanner as well? What one do you advise ??

Reg Scrub XP click here
Very safe when you have loaded it select Regscrub Find problems scan then Select all problems, then delete all problems, and Exit. It's as easy as that.
