Question regarding RAM...

Hi forum, i have just been to Crucial to see what memory is compatible with my machine. What is the difference between non-parity & Ecc Ram. Because i have the option to buy either type. Many thanks. John

Non-parity basically doesn't error check the memory, ECC does. This is only really needed in servers and other mission-critical systems and slows down memory speed slightly. Just go with the non-parity RAM, this is what most PCs come with as standard.

Thanks for that David... Much obliged.

ECC RAM does more than just detect errors, it is able to correct certain types of bit loss errors.

Parity, though, is just error detection.
