Querying Windows 7 - which version

A few queries regarding Windows 7.
1...Are there any drawbacks to using the upgrade version?
2...What are the differences?
3...Will the upgrade version install without destroying data and programs.
4...I am, at the moment using Vista Home - this has a backup copy of the OS on a 'hidden' partition. If I had the upgrade version and, perhaps, had trouble later and had to restore - would this involve first reinstalling Vista from that backup.

Advice before I go any further would be greatly appreciated.

Just one thing I would recommend is to download and install windows live mail

This will then stay on the computer when you do the upgrade click here

What people dont realise is this, if you buy an upgrade disc you can in fact do a clean install, this is how!

Pop your Windows 7 disc in, when the screen pops up click custom install! Next install windows, but do not put the activation key in! Now the computer will put into windows! Now restart the computer with the disc still in and then click upgrade, windows will then install and now when asked for the product key put it in.

Hey presto a complete install without the awful part of layering a new windows over an old one!
