quad core CPU help required

just had a call from a friend ,who has just built a new comp with a quad core Q6600 on a Gigabyte M/B and 4gb of Ram but is very disappointed with the speed ,when he goes into device manager it only shows one core ,whereas it should show all four .
Now my own computer has only a duo core fitted and when I go into Device manager it shows two distinct cores ,can anyone please throw any light on the problem or post a link to one

If he's using XP, tell him to do a repair of XP. click here

Delete the cpu in device manager and restart the computer, this worked for me with an upgrade from dual core to quad core.

Failing that a bios update might be the answer.
