on the asus A7V8X-MX should the Q fan control be enabled of disabled.he reason being i came home from work to find it stating on my pc warning cpu overheating

Try setting the ratio to a higher setting say 12:14 and the timing to 2 sec:4sec

If you were getting CPU overheat warnings then it probably is an issue with your main CPU cooler rather than the Q-Fan. You should be checking your CPU Fan RPM, CPU temps and the thresholds settings. If your using the Asus Probe software in Windows, you can set the threshold settings tourself so it will only warn based on what you have told it to do...
If you have a ratio setting in your BIOS then do as AndySD suggested but I dont think you have with that model..
