Pure css button problem in firefox

This click here is an early version of the layout of a site i am designing, it is nothing special and the links dont actually work yet but i have a problem with it.

I have this really annoying problem with the buttons in the navbar at the top. Basically in FF they dont look at all right, they dont fill the navbar, where in IE they do. I have tried everything i can think of including messing with padding and margin but cant seem to solve the problem.

Does anybody know what could be causing this and what the solution would be?

What was the solution, out of interest? It might be useful.
