ps2 mouse in usb port problem

i have got a new laptop and have been fine with using the touch pad until playing 3d games, so i thought id use my ps2 mouse with my laptop and a ps2 to usb converter, the problem is the device is not recognised by windows, the mouse is an old packard bell wireless optical one,

is there any way to get it to work?

from control panel, disable your touchpad, and then enable your mouse.

Do new Laptops not have PS2 ports anymore?

  crosstrainer 16:36 19 Jul 07

Sadly not! Not for a while in fact, I hate touchpads, but when I plugged my mouse into one of the usb ports on my lappy, I had the same problem

Found that you had to disable the touchpad first, then enable the mouse.

So, we are losing Parallel (lpt) ports, Serial (Com) ports and now PS2 ports?

Do laptops still have a 15 pin graphics port for an external monitor?

Yes they still have the graphics port, but some are now being shipped with digital connectors.

progress :)

Just for the record, my Medion lappy running XP works with a simple USB mouse just as well without disabling the touchpad, I could use either at more or less the same time. Of course, the mouse is more convenient.
