PS/2 mouse and a serial mouse adapter.

Just wanting to know why -

If you have a 6 pin-mini-din mouse and attach a serial mouse adapter to it, so that you could use it with a serial port...why does it not work?

Just a general question.

No idea it will work on mine

There are at least two different ways of them being wired that I know of, might be more!

So they will work, you just need to find the correct adaptor. J.

Cheers...I should rephrase the question -

Under what circumstances would the 6 pin PS/2 + serial adapter/port not be compatible?

Would this be as you said - a wiring configuration problem?

Baring in mind its a 6pin mouse and not a 5.

But I'm afraid that's where my understanding of the problem stops!

My friend has had this problem in the past, and with two adaptors, and three mice experienced the following.

1st. mouse worked with both adaptors.

2nd. mouse with no. 1 adaptor, but not with no. 2.

3rd. mouse with no. 2 adaptor, but not with no. 1.

Now I'm completely confused, and off for a lie down to recover! hope I haven't done the same to you. Regards. J. :o)
