Hi,

I am an ICT competant secondary teacher, and I am lucky enough to have a projector in my clasroom. It is linked to my laptop via a serial cable. The projector has no USB out, only serial, video, Svideo.

I have a remote for the projector, which includes buttons for advancing the slides in ppt, but these buttons don't do anything, and I have tried everything I can think of.

Does anyone know if I have to change a setting somewhere, or if I need to have the projector connected by USB to make it work?

Thanks in advance
Ellie

I have just read the user manual for my projector. It says that these functions only work if projector connected by USB, but projector has no USB out. Bah.

Anyone know if a USB/serial converter would work?

quick checks

1. batteries in remote :0)
2. point the remote at the projector not the screen or the laptop :0)
(have seen both these problems quite recently)

3. have you tried it when connected by svideo cable?
4. can you get into the menu system on the projector?
ad is there a setting for the remote.

make / model number of projector?

NO, serial convertor will make no difference

Bare in mind also in so many 'User Manuals' of all sorts of kit are 'multi model'
You particular item may not do all the manual says it can.

To Fruit Bats questions
1. yes, because on/off menu etc all work fine!
2. yes, the kids haven't driven me utterly daft!
3. No, because it's ceiling mounted 3 metres up and the cables run through plastic casing. (but you still need USB too according to manual)
4. Yes, menu system works fine, have been all through, no settings for remote.

Its a sony cs7 I think, but I'm at home now so that may be wrong.

Jack - I think you may be correct, and the projector doesn't necessarily have the functions referred to in the manual.

My wife, who is an educational consultant, uses a projector and laptop with a wireless laser pointer and remote presentation controller.
