How do I get progress bar to show at bottom. Lost since install IE9 Vista

I think you mean the status bar. Right click at the top and select status bar.

Have checked that but still no green bar. Trying out the new IE9 perhaps that is problem

View. Toolbars. and tick status bar.

Just twigged what jim63 means. The progress bar has been removed in IE9. The progress bar was part of the status bar.

The spinning circle at the left of the tab is the closest to giving progress of the page loading.

I always have the Status bar switched off so not really got a clue as to what it is.
Not unless it is the error in page script message that I used to get.

The progress bar was a green bar that steadily increased as the page loaded showing how fast or how slow it was and indicating how much time it may take to fully load. It is present bottom right on Firefox's status bar.

Put this on the wrong thread but it was one I had a long while ago.
Still get the same message but on the left hand side of the status bar in Firefox.
