programs running in the backround.

Hi, I have an old computer by todays standards p3 450mghz with 320 mb ram. It does seem slow running compared to a friend of mine who recently bought a new one. I have been told I can speed it up a bit by closing programs in the background whilst pressing Ctrl/Alt/Del. Which ones do I close without it causing problems.
Many thanks for any help you can give.

To see what is being started download startuplist click here

Then compare the list with click here

As a minimum you need explorer and systray.

What Operating System You can run MSCONFIG from start/run and type the above the go to the startup tab. you remove tick's to stop them running if you are Win98 you cannot stop Explorer or System Tray. If you are Running MS Office you can sop all the MSOffice start programs in the above they are resource hogs
