hi,

just wondering,
is there a simple way of finding out what kind of ram is in a certain computer.

for example, on the computer im on now, i have an msi motherboard capable of pc1600 to pc2700 ddr sdram from 64mb to 3gb. at the minute the ram is 256 mb 184pin. is there a simple way of finding out wether its pc1600 or pc 2700 or anything in between without taking the back off?

thanks

thanks guys for replying, another quick query,

at the minute on this motheboard i have a 256mb 2100 ddr sd ram installed 133mhz i believe

is it ok to slightly mismatch it,

by that i mean i want to add another stick of 256mb to it but it is a 2700 instead of 2100

would it cause any problem?

cheers

Putting in 2700 and 2100 RAM together will make no real difference, unless it is the case that they are meant as dual channel (unlikely as you only have one at present).

At best the whole lot will run at the slowest speed, at worst the whole system becomes unstable and sometimes will fail to boot!

This nasty habit seems to depend very much on your motherboard's characteristics, but frankly I wouldn't go there.
