Sometimes when I start my PC the programs that load when Windows starts, they don't load, this seems to happen when I first switch on the PC of a morning. When this happens and I try to restart Windows the PC will not restart or shut down if I pick that option and the only thing that I can do is to switch the PC off by the power switch.I have also noticed that sometimes when I shutdown the PC it is slower than it used to be at shutting down.

What operating system do you use? If winxp, try this:

start

run

sfc /scannow

You will need your CD.

Also try a defrag, just load the programs that you really need - try the msconfig utility:

start

run

msconfig

and under the startup tab, disable some that are not necessary.

click here for a listing of startup programs.
