Some of the programs on my computer will not open, when i click to open them they appear then dissapear, this does not happen to all programs just some. When i run msconfig it appears then dissapears before i can change anything. i've tried to scan for viruses using norton but that does the same has anybody had the same. I run windows xp pro and was formated last week to clear all junk away.

It sounds like you have got infected again. Try running Norton in safe mode.

1.Start the computer. The computer begins processing a set of instructions known as the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). What is displayed depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS, while others may not display any indication that this process is happening.

2. As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.

NOTE: If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers will generate a "keyboard error" message. Please restart and try again.

3. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.

Hi Andy i tried what you suggested, i did manage to start Norton, but all i got was the start screen it would not let me scan for viruses

You probably forgot to get all the critical updates from Microsoft after formatting.

it,s now sorted thanks guys, i download an anti virus program called Avast and it found more viruses than you can shake a stick at. Everything now o.k
