Program tries to uninstall my modem drivers

A couple of days ago the upgrade utility crashed while I was trying to update my BB modem drivers, requiring me to re-boot to get out of it. I re-ran the program, and it crashed again at the same place. I then re-installed the original modem drivers from CD, and I'm back on line.

BUT every time I boot up my PC (Win XP Home), as soon as all the desktop icons are in place the modem driver installation utility kicks in and tries to uninstall my modem drivers. I can stop it using Ctrl-Alt-Del > Task Manager > End Task.

How do I stop this, please? There's obviously a line of code somewhere causing the program to kick in when I boot up -- is it in Win.ini or some place like that?

No - I think something's got corrupted during the crash. What OS?
