Processor won't go into System Standby Mode

Because my PC is so slow at starting up I am attempting to make it go into "System Standy".

I am running Windows XP SP3 and I also have an external Hard Drive.

The power settings are as follows:

Turn of Monitor - 1 Hour
Turn Off Hard Disk - 1 Hour
System Standby - 1 Hour

The monitor goers off after an hour - but not the processor.

If I am at the login screen System Standby works OK.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out what is stopping the "Stabdby" option from working?

as a guess I think that what is happening is that as everything is set to 1 hour - the system is waiting a further 1 hour to standby after the monitor and hard disk have switched. Try setting standby to 55 minutes so it goes first.

Thanks for your help.

I tried changing the timings but it made no difference. However the system standby does start when the PC is switched on and waiting for me to log on, but after I have logged on.

Any further ideas anyone?
