Processor upgrade

I have a Duron 1200 mhz cpu in my pc, but a friend has suggested up grading to an Athlon xp1700. I know that the Athlon runs at 1100 mhz, is it worth changing it? or is the Athlon more efficient at what it does? Thanks.

Yes the athlon is a better bet but you need to make sure your motherboard will take it. The athlon 1700 actually runs at 1.47ghz so there would be a definite improvement in games but in some everyday stuff you may not notice. You should try and go for the most powerful processor your motherboard can take to make it a really worthwhile upgrade. At the end of the day it depends what you use your PC for.

If you know the make and model of your motherboard then post it here and then we can find out what processor you can upgrade to.
