New to to laptops. Got a new Comapq Pressario V4000 series laptop the other day. When i'm running an application, there is a 'loud' humming from within the comp. Is this the processor or the fan? It intermittantly stops and starts up again. It's quite loud for somebody sitting in a room with no music on. Is this normal? (the noise, not sitting on your own with comp) I believe CTRL+ALT+DEL enters the processes etc but i'm *!@:ed and don't know what to do.

It sounds like the fan and it's perfectly normal

If you hold a piece of tissue paper (or even your hand) near the air vents you should be able to check if it is the fan. As Pyroxide said, it is perfectly normal.
