Hi just upgraded from an athlon xp1700+
to a amd sempron 3000+ & Abit KV 80 mobo.
Everything seems ok except my bios says
Amd Hammer Family processor model unknown.
I thought a mobo bios update would fix this
but i dont know how to do this.
the mobo cd driver disk has a utilty for doing this online but the flash program says it is out of date, download the latest one from abit
but the same thing happens.
I dont want to mess up the bios & damage the mobo.
Any idears how to solve this anyone?
cheers peeps :)

If its running ok I'd be tempted to leave it because as you obviously know if you flash the BIOS and something goes wrong you can effectively destroy the motherboard. Perhaps someone can suggest a benchmark program you can try which will tell you what speed you're getting and what it should be, I seem to remember Sandra had a benchmark program, try that click here

I have successfully updated the bios after printing out how to do it & it worked..Phew i was sweating for a moment or 2.
The bios now says Amd Sempron 3000+

Thank u all for the advice :)

Although you were successful on this occasion, BIOS upgrading generally belongs, very firmly, in the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" category. Only do it if you really have to.
