problems with view source code on web pages

in the past when using windows 2000 and the latest version of internet explorer i could do the following

view > source

and the HTML code would appear in notepad

and now im using windows xp using the latest version of IE do the same but no source code even notepad doesnt open

any ideas?

i had the same problem all you have to do is make sure that notepad is your default html editor. Right click internet explorer and select properites, under the programs tab make sure the html editor is set to notepad. It should work fine after this.

the source code does not appear at all, ive tryed different web sites, cleared temp internet files and selected Notepad in the html editor but still notepad and the source code does not appear.

any more ideas?

If you have the XP cd then try the System File Checker

Put your windows CD into the CD ROM and hold the shift key (the one with arrow pointing up, just above the Ctrl key on the left of your keyboard). Holding shift for a few seconds will stop the Windows CD from auto running, but the drive will still spin up to read the disk then spin back down again. Once it has spun down you can release the shift key.

Now click Start/All Programs/Accessories and choose Command Prompt. Type in

sfc /scannow

and hit enter. This will check and replace any damaged system files.
