Problems sending Sky e-mails using Outlook 2003

Similar to many people I'm having problems setting up e-mails with Sky now that they've moved to use google mail. Having found that Sky don't support Outlook 2007 I loaded an old copy of Outlook 2003 and followed Sky's instructions to the letter- enabling POP download in the Sky email Inbox 'Mail settings' and in my Outlook mail account I set the Outgoing server as with an outgoing mail port of 465 with SSL enabled. I can receive e-mails without problems but when I try to send e-mails- after a longish wait I get the following error message-Task ' - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'I have spoken to Sky on a number of occasions and have used their unlockcabtcha utility without success. I'm now running out of ideas and would appreciate any suggestions.
