Problems Sending Email with attachments

I am running Outlook 2000 - use XP Home - use NTL Broadband - run McAfee Internet Security

I am having problems sending emails with attachments of any size (even really small ones) through Outlook.
It's driving me bonkers.
Nothing I do seems to make any difference.
Help please anyone.

Can you describe what actually happens (error messages etc.).

What type of files are these - Word docs or similar?

The email sits in the outbox. It appears to be cyling through the receive and send process...but is still sat there.
I have received an error message of 0x80040601.
Have tried setting up an aletrnative pop3 account just in case it is my use of K9 (anti SPAM) but that appears to not be the problem.
Can send through Webmail

there is a patch for this on the McAfee site click here
it is scanning out going email attachments when it does not need to and gives a timeout error

thanks britto.
Have downloaded the patch from McAfee.
Can unzip it but then cannot run no further forward...but tantalisingly close.

Did you follow the instructions to terminate the original scanning process first?
