Problems seeing my emails

I have windows XP on my laptop, with Norton Firewall and anti virus, I also use Mailwasher. I get emails in Mailwasher and process them. They are then downloaded to Thunderbird, my email programme, yet, they do not appear in my inbox. I am told they are there as an icon appears in the bottom of the screen near my clock. Does anybody know where they are and how I can get to see them? Thanks. (and yes, I have actually downloaded them by clicking on "Get Mail")

I have an individual "Inbox" for each email account in Thunderbird but there is also a "global" inbox in the local folders section. Have you checked for downloaded messages in both locations?

The inbox to use is configured in "Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings (for the specific Account)" and then by clicking the Advanced button.
