Have had to re-install XP on an evesham machine due to mega problems with computer constantly crashing. Since re-install have a few problems -1. No sound card detected
2. Unable to change resolution, and system will not recognise monitor ( dell flatscreen );it is stuck in default monitor mode and will not allow me to change properties
3. Unable to use standby mode - can only shut down or restart computer

Grateful for any help

Reinstall the drivers for the devices that are missing

Oh and I doubt it is the monitor that is not being seen it will be the graphics card drivers

Try a windoze update. Let it scan your pc and find updates for your hardware.

Just a thought db07, has your computer got onboard sound or has it a seperate soundcard. If it has onboard sound then you install the drivers that came with the motherboard. For example my mainboard is a Gigabyte one and the sound drivers are on the same disk as the Via drivers for the motherboard.
