Problems opening Word 2003

I am running office 2003 on windows xp and have had a major problem opening word documents.

I got the loop which said that word encountered a serious problem and to recover, which did't resolve the issue.

I detected and repaired within word, but that didn't work.

I uninstalled and reinstalled word, but that didn't work.

I tried repairing office within control panel, but that also didn't work.

Outlook was teling me that word was corrupted but I couldn't find a way to fix it.

I was stumped until I read this post on the forum click here

I followed Eric10's advice and deleted my normal templates, and it appears to have solved the problem, so I thought it may be worth posting again just to provide a bookmark.

I had 2 templates - "2normal2" which was 232 kb and "normal" which was 9162kb.

I'm still not sure why the templates were corrupted as I keep my AVG free up to date and run daily scans, which all come up clean?

So thank you PC Advisor, and all the forum members for helping me stay sane.

Has anyone any idea how to stop this from happening again - is AVG free up to scratch?
