Problems with new fitted RAM in laptop

  Billy911 16:06 04 Jul 08

I've just fitted 512Mb into the laptop but it doesn't recognise it. It still shows the 256Mb that was originally in it. I've tried swapping slots but with no change and tried the 512Mb on it's own but the laptop wouldn't even boot.

Before I bought the RAM I did a scan on to make sure I was buying the correct type and as far as I know I have.

If you bought it from Crucial just go back to them. Their after sales service is second to none.

was it from crucial or was it cheaper elsewhere?

Some laptops need the same memory in each slot (ie 256+256 or 512+512). However if the laptop fails to boot when the new 512 is in either slot then it's either the wrong memory or it's faulty memory. As Taff™ says 'Call Crucial'.

what computer are you installing ram, and did you ground yourself b4 installing the ram?

Best thing to do is what Taff and dms-05 have said go back to crucial.
