Problems with MS Access field size

I am having probs with increasing the field size on a data base I have designed.
Normally, the field is set to "text" which allows up to 255 characters per field. This can be increased to 65.5k characters by changing the data type property to "memo".
However, when I do this, I still cannot type in more than 255 charcters. It is essential that I increase the field size as the data base is used to stoer and retrieve large amounts of descriptive text.
I think that I must be missing a trick somewhere; can any one help please ?

Thanks - Peter.

are you entering the data directly into the table or via a form?

have you changed the format of the textbox as well as the format of the field in the table?

sorted! I opened the table in design view and altered the propetries of the text boxes from "text" to "memo". That did the trick - thanks again: Peter.
