Problems with IE6 - unwanted search pages

  onemadjock 19:54 26 Oct 03

Sometimes when i enter an address in ie, it shows the page cannot be displayed page but then decides to select to search for the address in a different web site. xml-overture is one of them that comes up, instead of the normal msn autosearch page.

Has anyone got any suggestions as this is really starting to annoy me especially when it is an ongoing loop of search pages appearing.

Thanks in advance

Try running Spybot click here

try 'Tools...Internet Options....Advanced tab... section 'Search from the address bar'.. select 'Do not search from the address bar'.. that way you control what search engines you want, as you have to physically type in the search engines address :-)... and as VoG suggests, run Lavasoft Adware click here and Search and Destroy click here will keep the nasties at bay :-)

Cheers for that - ran search and destroy and it seemed to do the trick. Now it just shows dns error rather than being hijacked.

Thanks again!
