  instant^mash 14:33 23 Jun 03

The problem being that I cant get into DOS with the boot disk I have to FDISK it.

I get an error a like this

'non-system disk or disk error'

My friend who sent me the disk says it works fine on his rig!

Any ideas?

click here and download the one you need. What O/S are you working on?

Its XP

It looks like it as got disc overlay software on the drive. You cannot remove it with FDISK you have to use the correct software such as Max Blaster or whatever as been used to access the disc

PS Seagate have there own software that you can download from the site, if it's a Seagate Drive

The drive in question is a Western Digital.

What is disc overlay software?

what are you using to Fdisk an XP system?

  instant^mash 14:51 23 Jun 03

Well, I have been trying to boot into DOS via a boot disk my friend sent me, to do it from there.

I need to format the drive as I have bought a new motherboard

Software produced by the drive manufacturer so you can access all the drive it gets round the bios limitation

Just format with the XP CD you can clear the tables and recreate with the disk.

Would I be right in thinking if you boot from the XP CD it will give you the option to format?
