Problems after connecting CD-RW Drive

Please excuse my inexperience as computers are not really "my thing" but upon removing my old cd drive for a rewritable ATAPI-Interface LITEON drive (no model number on box) I am experiencing many niggly little problems. I have WINDOWS M.E. and so according to the LITEON website don't require a software driver, but upon startup I get the message " Sec Master Drive-ATAPI Incompatible Press F1 to Resume" and then puts me into selective startup. Since connecting the drive the computer also seems to have become unstable with problems arising with other programs which were previously working without problem. Any help would be most appreciated.

you have the jumper pins set wrong on the back of the drive, look at you old one and set accordingly

Thanks very much JonnyTub! Problem (very hopefully) solved!
