Problems adding new PC to network

I recently bought a new PC with XP to replace my old Win 98 one, I had an existing network to share my ADSL connection around the house, I had no problem adding the new PC to the network.

My daughter wanted the old PC so I decided to format it and put XP home on it, when it loaded it asked me for a dialing code to access the internet, I thought this was strange as I hadn't seen it on any of the other instalations I have done. I then loaded it up and put in the network setup disk, put it on the same workgroup with a different name, yet it didnt recognise it was on a network and I can't access the internet through it.

It is a very old PC but it meets the minimum spec so I dont think that has anything to do with it, does anyone have any ideas how to get it to recognise its on a network?
