Problem with word not loading

Hi
Running vista basic and suddenly word has stopped working.
Every time I try to launch it, it comes up with a message: Microsoft Word for Windows has stopped working."

It was working fine when I used it last.
I have twice uninstalled / installed.
Any ideas gratefully accepted.

Also, is there a free word type programme that I could download if I can't get word to work again.
Thanks

Have a look in Add remove programs, is there an option to repair office?

Thanks Fruit Bat.
Have tried that, no difference.

Here is an excellent alternative, and it is free - click here

Microsoft Word problems can often be cured simply by deleting or renaming the Normal.dot template. You haven't said which version of Word you are using but if it's 2007 then the template is now called Normal.dotm.
The default location in Vista is "C:\Users\'username'\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates" but you will need to be set up to show hidden files.
The next time you start Word a new, default template is created so if this was the cause then it will now work ok.

Thanks Eric10
I'm using word 2000

Thanks Technotiger, already using it, but would still like to get word to work

Try typing "winword /a" in the Run dialogue but without the quotes. This starts Word without using any add-ins or using the normal.dot template. Let us know if this works or not.
