Problem with Windows update

when i go to windows update and scan for updates it freezes on 0% and won't start scanning.
Anybody know why?
I am running win98se any more info required please ask

Mine doesn't freeze per se. It just seems that way - it now takes about 4 times as long to search for updates.

After clicking the scan for updates link, nothing seems to happen for about a minute then the 0% changes to 33%... then nothing for another minute then 66% .... then eventually I get a list.

How long have you left it?

Go to MS Knowledge Base and do a search there are plenty of articles on this issue

I have been there and tried all of it.
It still does not work

sorted it
Went to internet options
LAN settings and unticked automatically detect settings and use auto configuration script

It has the latest updates for 98SE - added on 6 Feb.

I don't know what could be worng and will let someone else answer.

PS you download to HDD, so you can save the updates to save time if you need to re-install you'll have them already :)
