Problem with Window Defender?

  ened 07:55 04 Mar 09

I have been messing about trying to get my machine to accept a new keyboard and did a System Restore to 24 feb. This was the last update by Defender.

My problem is that, according to the icon there is now a problem with Windows Defender. When I look for updates it reports that no updates are available. But the Exclamation Mark remains

There is no noticeable problem when I open it.

Any ideas please?

Also my other thread is click here

I am wondering if the two issues are connected?

The only problem I had with defender ages ago... never use it now anyway... was resolved by altering and applying changes to when it scans for updates and performs regular scans and so on.
Try altering the settings and apply them, reboot and alter them back again to what you want... just might clear it. My problem was something similar to yours.

if you are on XP delete reboot and get a fresh download. [you cannot delete on vists]

Thanks to you both.

sunnystaines It is a Vista machine.

I have updated it manually, by downloading the latest update from MS, and all is okay. It doesn't appear to be connected with my other problem.
