Problem with USB

I have a spare computer and everything works fine apart from the USB's. I believe they just need "activating". Does this mean I need to download the drivers to make them work, if so where can I acquire them?

Thanks

Have been into the BIOS to enable them?

Check at the Device Manager if it is disabled. Also, depending on your system, usb may be disabled at the bios. In both cases, try enabling it...and please be careful how you use these, particularly the bios setup utility.

Which version is your operating system.

If it is W98 or earlier you will need a patch to enable the USB.

USB was not enabled until W98 Second Edition.

It is pre 98se. Where do I get this patch from?

  minter 19:25 15 Oct 03

Sorry wrong info. Brain caught fire.

It is W95 that has the two editions where the first does not have USB support.

If you are running W95 there is a patch.

Sorry for wrong info before.

In order to install Universal Serial Bus support on a PC, Windows 95
version 950B must be running.

This can be determined by checking the version of Windows by right clicking on "My Computer" and selecting properties. The general tab will show the Windows version. If it lists the system as 4.00.950B this product can be installed safely on your PC.

NOTE:
If your version of Windows is not 4.00.950B the PC will not accept the USB files and fail to install. No harm will be encountered by the
system from trying to install USB support.

If you have W95 (4.00.950B)disc the USB supplement is inside "other" - "usb".

I don't have a W95 disc.

So it's Windows 98?

  minter 19:47 15 Oct 03

You need W95 OSR2 disc this contains the USB supplement.

Sorry I do not know where you can get hold of it. I know it is out there somewhere, but at the moment I can't find it. Am going to scoure my files (but that is like looking for a needle in a hay stack). So do not hold your breath.

Hopefully someone will come in and post an address.
