Problem with top margin in Word 2003

Anyone come across this one? I open Word 2003 in page layout by default and it has worked properly for a year or so. Suddenly it has decided not to display the top margin - the cursor sits right at the top of the 'page.' If I open and immediately close Header and Footer it puts the cursor in the right place. It happens on every page if the H&F route has not been used. However if I go to print preview the layout is correct as it is when printed.

This relates to the show/hide white space, if you move the cursor towards the top of the page slowly you will see the small icon that looks like two small arrows and the info show/ hide white space - just click once, and hey presto its back
