problem reinstalling xp

i am trying to reinstall xp pro on my desktop . Thing is we go through the procedure ok until it needs to copy files . then it comes uyp with unable to load such and such file and they are quite a few so i quit then start again same thing . Ihave used the disc not so long ago and it wass ok Had to reinstall , my grandson got the thing in a mess .Could that be the problem and hard drive become that corrupt .can someone give me a direction thanks nobby

That should not make any difference, I assume you are booting from disc?.

Try cleaning the disc it might have got dirty.

Also try running a lens cleaner through the DVD drive

ok i have cleaned and fettled and now i am in a right state monitor shows NTLDR missing . Just thought would it be easier for me to get a £ 10 hard drive of auction site thats formatted and good to go . its only messin about Pc for my grandson regards nobby
