Problem printing with pictures

Can anyone help? I have a problem printing anything that contains a picture of graphics. At first I thought it was the printer but it happens with any colour inkjet printer. Then I thopught it might be Windows ME so I upgraded to XP Home. Then T thought it might be memory, so I increased this to 768 meg and it still happens. The printer starts to print and then at some stage, and there is no common time, it stops. Bringing up the printer dialogue box shows the document as printing but nothing happens. No other document or picture can be printed until the original is deleted (often this necessitates restarting the PC, but ocassionally switching the printer off and then on again may clear this. I have also tried using parallel cable instead of USB, but this has no effect. The same document will print in mono on my Laserjet 4L with no problem. Help
