i started yesturday networking two pcs via ethernet cards & cross over cable didnt have problem putting cards in or configering via network wizard only had problem when i tried to get on internet with host pc kept saying web page unavielable :: bye the way im on freeserve broadband & both pcs on windows millennium. after speaking to freeserve tech dept i was told to take broadband off & reinstall which i did but when on install the pc would not reconise modem drivers or could not find them:::so i phoned tech dept again told me to download a file called (dsl clean from web site 5 star freeserve.com) but this i could not do even on old 56k modem(i think thats because im on broadband now) after taking out ethernet card & many many hours later pc finnally found drivers & i got back on line.but still not got networking going, im not so sure about doing it this way again after ten hours of problems yesturday is there a better way of doing it or should i have taken out old 56k modem befor i started this could this be conflict between old 56 modem & networking. ps broadband modem is copper jet external modem

You can just disable your modem in Device Manager,if needed later just enable it.

do you have Zone Alarm?

or any other firewall software running?

if so it could be stopping the computer from accessing the internet, try turning off the firewall (only to try, then get it back on)
and try to connect again, also have you enabled ICS (internet connection sharing)

let us know about firewall then i will expand on this.
