problem logging on to web host from wi fi hotpsots

I have my own internet site and use Dreamweaver. I have tried to update my site from abroad and U.K from a wireless LAN hotpot but I am unable to log on to my service provider NTL. Does anyone know a way round this or any service providers that have a feature to able me to log onto the server to update my site from a remote location?

I've got a feeling that the NTL servers are only accessible from their dedicated lines, so you have to be on a NTL phone line or cable connection - I'm not 100% on this, but something sticks in my mind.
