Problem with link from laptop to poweramp/mixer.

Hi, I have experienced something for the first time and what it is I use a laptop for karaoke / disco music and last night halfway through a gig the link seemed to pack up, what I mean is the music was playing on the laptop but not reaching the mixer/amp, and I use a cable link from the headphone socket with two jacks linked to a channel, would this be a problem with the laptop or what?

Try connecting an mp3 player with the cable to the amp - does that work, if not its the cable or the amp.

I don't have an mp3 player! I shall have to try and borrow one! and probably would'nt have a cable to suit!

So you mean you use the headphone out socket on the laptop to feed the amp ?

So that will be a 3.5 mm jack plug... yes ?
Starting with the amp on LOW volume just touch the tip of the plug with your finger... you should hear a harsh buzz from the amp and speakers. If so the problem would appear to be with the laptop, if not then problem with the amp.

Thank you. I shall give it a try a bit later.
