Recently I have had a numbe rof problems loading new hardware via usb ports. This has occured in relation to trying to install both mobile phones and usb bluetooth stick via usb ports.

The softwar eis loaded and the hardware is detected but then I get the error message that there was a problem installing the hardware.

I an coming to the conclusion that that the problem lies not with the indidivudal hardwar ebut on the pc re the usb accepting any new hardware.

Can anybody help please?

Refresh USB Ports
Use Drive clean up to remove USB device drive info from the registry
In device manager Uninstall EVERYTHING under the heading USB,
reboot the PC let XP find and install new hardware.
Your equipment should now be recognised.

USB Permissions
Start - Run and type
Press OK.
Navigate to:
Right click on the folder and pick permissions. Set to ALLOW.
Do the same for:

Thanks for your reply. I must say that I am nervous to remove the usb drvies in case I cannot reinstall and lose the printer camera etc.

You have advised using the Drive clean software or uninstalling all the usb and reinstall hardware. IN the former if the USB device drive is removed from the registry how ids then 'repaired'?

Underneath you have advised to change the permissions. 2 questions
a) will this work without doing the above or is it a follow-on?
b) Under allow do I give full control or read and should this be done for the Adminstrator only or everyone?

Mnay thanks in ancticiaaption of more sound advice
