Problem installing a Canon printer onto a laptop

I have tried to install a Canon iP6000 printer(using the supplied CD-ROM) onto my Windows 7 Packard Bell Easynote LJ71 laptop. However I get the error message 'this program is for 32-bit Intel-compatible platforms only'.Please what do I do next to overcome this problem?

Have a look here for your Windows 7 drivers. Select the correct one i.e. 64-bit or 32-bit. Link

Having followed the links for Win7 32-BIT driver it states "This software is a module that expands the functionality of the printer driver for Canon Inkjet printers. Your printer must be installed via Microsoft Update before you download and use this module. By installing this software, you can use the printer... "

So I take it as Windows will install the basic driver automatically once connected. Try uninstalling the CD software and rebooting. Once back to desktop connect the printer and see if Windows installs the driver automatically.
